With its high density of colleges and universities, Los Angeles offers numerous nursing education options. In addition to undergraduate and doctoral programs, a masters entry clinical nurse program designed to prepare individuals who have a non-nursing bachelor's degree for nursing careers is available from the UCLA School of Nursing, which also offers graduate-level specialties in acute care, gerontology, oncology and pediatrics. A graduate distance-learning program, offered in partnership with Kaiser Permanente, is available at California State University at Los Angeles. Traditional, accelerated and RN-to-BSN programs are available through Mount Saint Mary's College, in addition to associate's degree and master's programs. A vocational nursing program, including certified nurse assistant and home health aide courses, is offered by Los Angeles Trade Tech College.
Demand for nurses is high in the Los Angeles area. According to the California Employment Development Department, 20.5% growth is expected in registered nursing jobs in Los Angeles County by 2012, with 17% growth anticipated for licensed practical and vocational nurses.
