Los Angeles is also home to many universities and colleges, some of which are among the best in the country. California State University offers undergraduate programs in all three major performing arts disciplines, as well as graduate music and theatre arts degrees. The University of California at Los Angeles offers education for musicians and theatre majors. The University of Southern California offers undergraduate and postgraduate study in music, music industry and theatre. Loyola Marymount University has undergraduate degree programs in music, dance and theatre.
The labor market in Los Angeles is excellent for all sectors of the performing arts. Musicians can expect 20% growth through to 2012, while dancers and actors can expect growth of 17% and 15% respectively. It is important to remember that while the general job outlook is good, the majority of the new positions will be in the lower income bracket. As in any other city, positions in the high culture organizations do not open often and are often subject to stiff international competition when they do.
