Young people venture to L.A. in hordes to pursue media careers, and there certainly is no shortage of visual media training programs. The California Institute of the Arts, founded by Walt Disney, offers BFA and MFA photography degrees. Other Los Angeles schools offering photography education include the University of California at Los Angeles, the University of Southern California, and Otis College of Art and Design.
The actual number of photographers employed in Los Angeles is higher than in most American cities. There are approximately 1,500 full-time, salaried photographers employed in Los Angeles (and this number doesn't include self-employed photographers). The rate of employment growth in Los Angeles County is 8.1%, however, and is slightly lower than the national average.
